Tonight’s Academy Award celebration is going to be the most important ceremony since 2004 when The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King swept the Oscars and tied Titanic and Ben Hur for the most awards ever. I know people say that every year, but it’s especially poignant for Movie Season 2013 because by most objective criteria, 2013 has been the best year in film since 1999. The year, and Oscar Season especially, is laden with masterpieces and classics that will be for the ages – not to mention the already infamous snubbing of Inside Llewyn Davis. And unlike other ceremonies over the years like 2005, 2008, 2009, 2011 – that most people barely remember…this one will be talked about.
If you missed it, here was the list of my top 10 favorite films of the year. For this article, I’m merely going to repeat what I did last year. Give the relevant list for the Oscars for you, and include my personal preference and projection for each category. Last year, out of the 24 awards given out, I guessed 18 of them correctly, so hopefully that’s a good sign of my ability to read the ol’ dinosaur this time. I guess we’ll find out soon enough!
On this list, I don’t include every single category. Who really cares about short-subject documentary anyway?
